Meeting Agendas/Minutes

A major purpose for the Kern County Chapter of the California Grand Jurors' Association (KCCCGJA) is to provide an educational path for the citizens of Kern County.  Three avenues are currently used to accomplish this:

      1. The pre-training and training of new grand jury members,
      2. the use of our KCCCGJA speaker's bureau, and
      3. this website and links (above) to curriculum for use in public and
          private schools.

We believe that the students of today need to know the history, purpose, and the fundamental organization and operation of the Grand Jury system.  Since the KCCCGJA website is new, we have linked, with permission, to the San Mateo County Association of Grand Jurors' website, specifically the "Unit of Study", the "Learning Center" and the "Teacher's Guide".  It is our hope that all teachers in Kern County who teach in this area of study make use of this curriculum.
The curriculum materials, linked above, were developed under the professional guidance of Angelo J. Carmassi.  Mr. Carmassi is a retired Secondary School Principal from the South San Francisco Unified School District.  He served in that position from 1969 to 1992.  He served on the San Mateo County Grand Jury in 1998.

The events and destiny of our country in the future will be in the hands of our youth of today. Therefore, it is imperative that the core values of our society, our traditional institutions and our rules of law be perpetuated from one generation to another in order to sustain the democracy our citizens enjoy today. The goal of this unit of study is to provide students and teachers with basic information about the Grand Jury system in California. We are hoping that they will delve further into the workings of county juries when they discover how important this service is to them and all the residents in their county. Some of the information found in this unit of study can also be reviewed in length at the website of the California Grand Jurors' Association.

Other links are provided on each page of this website to the Kern County Grand Jury, the American Grand Jury Foundation,  the Federal Grand Jury, the Kern County Court, the US Federal Courts System, and the US Federal Courts Map.  Other resources are available online and in the local libraries.
